Moin,
I’m Justus Waterman, a UX/UI designer with over 12 years of agency experience in digital design, development, and strategy. I have a strong background in digital media design and solid programming skills.
After graduating in Industrial Design at Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, I joined ISCOPE as a UX/UI Designer. There, I create user interfaces that prioritize clarity, consistency, and usability, always guided by data and user feedback.
My portfolio includes a wide range of projects that reflect my creative journey and the design methods that drive my work.
My Path: Advertising, Coding & Designing User Experiences
My design career began in 2011 with a vocational training as a Technical Design Assistant. During this time, I learned the fundamentals of conceptual design from the ground up – from ideation and layout to typography and the practical implementation of first projects.
Following that, I completed another training program at the agency DieDrei!, which marked my entry into the world of digital media and programming. There, I deepened my knowledge of digital design and gained initial experience in frontend development. After finishing the program, I was offered a full-time position at DieDrei!, where I accompanied digital projects from start to finish and independently programmed websites in the frontend.
To further expand my conceptual and design skills, I enrolled in a Bachelor’s program in Industrial Design. My focus was on user-centered thinking, design methodology, and the development of innovative products and systems. This academic journey significantly enhanced my understanding of form, function, and user guidance, while sharpening both my analytical and creative abilities.
In parallel with my studies, I worked for over five years at weitkamp marketing, where I continued to build hands-on experience. I was responsible for implementing a variety of digital projects – from initial ideas to final delivery – while working closely with clients and development teams.
After graduating, I took on a full-time position as a UX/UI Designer at ISCOPE. There, I was able to put my comprehensive experience in concept, design, development, and strategy to the test from day one. I was deeply involved in a wide range of digital projects in both UX and UI design. My tasks included user research, wireframing, prototyping, and the final visual design of complex digital applications. I also collaborated closely with development teams, stakeholders, and clients
Thriving on Complexity: My Love for Prototyping
Prototyping is a crucial step in the UX/UI design process, bridging the gap between initial concepts and final development. I specialize in creating complex prototypes that accurately reflect even the most intricate user flows and interactions, ensuring a seamless and realistic user experience. Variables and dependencies are never an obstacle for me — rather, they present an exciting challenge that I tackle with technical expertise and creative problem-solving.
While I prefer working with Figma due to its modern and flexible platform that supports efficient and detailed prototyping, I also bring years of experience using Adobe XD. This dual expertise allows me to craft tailor-made solutions that effectively connect user guidance with visually appealing designs. By leveraging these tools, I can bring ideas to life and create prototypes that not only look great but also function intuitively and reliably.

Framework-Driven Development for Flexible Backends and Dynamic GUIs
In my recent projects, I have worked extensively with frameworks to develop both custom backends and graphical user interfaces. One key technology I leveraged was Tailwind CSS, a highly flexible and utility-first CSS framework that is also used by industry giants like Netflix, Google, and apps such as Trade Republic. Its modular approach allowed me to build visually consistent and responsive interfaces efficiently.
Among the projects I contributed to were a Headless CMS, designed to decouple content management from the presentation layer, and an application for measuring goods in the food industry, where usability and reliability were paramount. Additionally, I developed a custom backend for managing print orders in a print shop (DFT Druck), focusing on efficient order processing, status tracking, and integration with existing production workflows. These experiences demonstrated to me how frameworks can significantly streamline the development process, offering a robust foundation and reducing repetitive tasks.
However, while frameworks can greatly enhance productivity, I believe they should be used consciously and strategically. It’s important not to deviate too far from their core principles—striking a balance between leveraging their strengths and integrating a unique design language that makes the product stand out. For example, I used Figma to design complex “if-this-then-that” logic for dynamic forms, ensuring that even advanced features were seamlessly integrated into the user experience.
